Indian Independence Movement - Ai Mere Vatan Ke Logon

A wonderful flash into the past, this video covers the Independence movement right from the time British set foot in India to the year 1947 when India got its freedom finally.

Few Corrections

• The slide at 0:54 has a typo - The Battle of Plassey, 1757.
• The slide at 5:10 says "Chandrasekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt threw a bomb inside the Central Legislative Assembly. They were hanged in 1931". This is not completely true. The bombs had been thrown by Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt after which they volunteered to surrender. No one was injured in the explosions as the bombs did not contain any shrapnel and were specifically designed not to hurt anyone. Bhagat Singh was later convicted and subsequently hanged in 1931 for his participation in an another assasination case while Batukeshwar Dutt was released from the jail. On the other hand, Chandrasekhar Azad shot himself in 1931 being encircled by British troops. He kept on fighting till the last bullet. Finding no other alternative, except surrender, Chandrashekar shot himself.

Trivia
The song that runs in the background was famously performed live by Lata Mangeshkar in the presence of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Republic Day (26 January) 1963, just two months after the end of the Sino-Indian war. According to legend, Nehru was moved to tears by the song.
